Kinloch Lodge is a lakefront wilderness location. This is a fantastic opportunity for people into walking, kayaking and active living. Kinloch Lodge was voted the best BBH world traveler accommodation in New Zealand in the 41-70 bed category for 2004. We are committed to ensuring our staff, as well as our guests, enjoy every minute of their stay in Kinloch. The sort of staff member that will fit in well at Kinloch will be independently motivated to do well in all aspects of their life. They will enjoy living to the full and share with guests this joy through friendly and efficient service. Kinloch is a remote Wilderness location and is therefore not suited to people that need to depend on cafes, shops, bars etc.

Kayak Guide/Transport driver, Cycle and General Maintenance - FILLED

This is a varied position for our new kayak operation ideal for someone who is passionate about the outdoors and loves sharing their skills and knowledge with other people. Kayak guiding will involve out trips of short duration of 1 – 2 hours. In addition fishing rod, bicycle and general facility maintenance will be required. Some driving and general grounds maintenance will be required and extra work may be available in the restaurant.

  • Qualifications required: Sea Kayak Proficiency award, First Aid Certificate, Passenger service licence for small vehicles (up to 12 seater).
  • Desirable Qualifications: Bike Maintenance experience (training will be given)
  • Duration: November 1st to March 31st
  • Hours: 25 - 40 plus hours per week.

Nanny - FILLED

James (7), Lucy (6) and Sam (4) need an energetic nanny who loves the outdoors to help look after them in lovely Kinloch.

Hours will be flexible though generally from 08.30 am till 12.30 and 5.00 till 9.00 pm in the evening.

  • Qualifications: Not required
  • Experience and qualities: Must love kids and be used to being around this age group.
  • Must be a highly positive motivated person to fit in with the family.
  • Hours: 40 plus per week - live in position

General Staff – 2 positions - FILLED

This position would be ideal for a bright person able to cover a multitude of tasks from table waiting, bar service to housekeeping, cleaning and laundry in a superb wilderness location. The mix of tasks makes for an interesting and varied day that will keep you buzzing till the end.

  • Qualifications required: Not required
  • Experience: Waiting tables, bar work, and/or barista experience. Housekeeping experience desirable though not essential.
  • Duration: Labour weekend to March 31st
  • Hours: 30 - 60 hours per week

Reception/General Staff - FILLED

Check in and check out are some of our busiest times during the day and in between there are plenty of trips to arrange, shop sales to make, restaurant bookings to organise and administrative bits and pieces as well as a busy phone and constant e-mail bookings. This is a busy post and the nerve centre of the business. Excellent personal communication skills and the willingness to take responsibility are essential. Part of the position involves room checks to ensure that standards are maintained in rooms throughout the site prior to guests check in. There is a high level of cash handling so good basic math ability is essential. On certain days there will be waitering work and housekeeping.

  • Qualifications required: Not required though must be numerate and be able to speak extremely good English.
  • Experience: Previous customer experience essential
  • Duration: Labour weekend to March 31st
  • Hours: 40 plus hours per week

Work Exchange

If you are short on time but would like to spend a few weeks at Kinloch, ask about our work exchange opportunities.   Duties usually include housekeeping, gardening and laundry, but if you have special talents we'll put you to work doing what you love.  Work exchangers work 4 hours per day in exchange for room and board.  The other 20 hours of the day are yours to explore the lake and mountains.  Other perks include free use of kayaks, mountain bikes, laundry and internet.

  • Qualifications required: Positive attitude and willingness to work hard and play hard
  • Experience: None required
  • Duration: Minimum commitment is 2-3 weeks
  • Hours: 4 hour per day with option of extra paid hours when available
