People arrive at Kinloch Lodge by car, bicycle, jetboat, motorcycle or minibus. Transfers can be easily arranged from Queenstown, and a 5-minute boat trip across Lake Wakatipu from Glenorchy can also be arranged (weather permitting - summer only).
Self-Drive
If you are going to be in the area for a few days, we highly recommend hiring a car in Queenstown. Having your own car will give you maximum flexibility to enjoy all the daywalks and activities the area has to offer. For two or more people, it typically works out to be more economical in the long run, too.
Kinloch Lodge is a breathtaking 1 hour scenic drive from Queenstown. The road from Queenstown to Glenorchy hugs the shores of Lake Wakatipu and the meandering turns open into some truly magnificant vistas. Be prepared to stop mid-way at Bennet's Bluff (26km) for an incredible photo opportunity! Stop in Glenorchy (your last chance for fuel, garage closes at 5pm) for fair-trade coffee, New Zealand gifts and visitor information at the Trading Post, then make the scenic drive around the top of the lake and across the Rees and Dart Rivers to Kinloch Lodge (26km). The road from Glenorchy to Kinloch is tarmac for 17km and changes to a well graded unsealed road for the last 9 kilometres.
The closest petrol station is in Glenorchy, so if you are running low on petrol after leaving Queenstown, be sure to fill up at Glenorchy no later than 5 pm before coming to Kinloch.
