What an incredible place to disconnect from the daily stress and connect with yourself. Immerse at the top of Lake Wakatipu, by the delta of Dart River, exists this lodge that has it all. Run by a Wonder Woman, super nice and multitasker, this beautiful lodge is a place to visit whenever you are in Glenorchy area. Not far at all, just after a scenic 20min drive on gravel road (9km) past Glenorchy.
The facilities are very well maintained, they have comfortable beds, warm duvets and even hot tub included in your stay. Then by 8-10am a delicious breakfast made with fresh greens from the garden and daily picked eggs, delicious coffee, and the view, what a view, you just don’t want to leave ever. Lured by the song of countless birds you just want to keep exploring. There are so many beautiful hiking trails for all levels around the area and host is so nice she can take you to the beginning of your track if you need to. Definitely a place to visit. I’ll be back soon.
We stayed here for one night in the Ecoscape cabin and absolutely loved it. We arrived late, after a long days walking, and Toni and John were great, accommodating this and serving up some amazing venison. The food is really good and being able to eat it on our cabin’s terrace and drink in the evening view over the lake and mountains, followed by a dip in the hot tub, was a perfect way to finish the day and relax. The cabins are perfect – simple, efficient , cosy, very well presented and everything you need. Love the single large window at the end of the bed – forget closing the blind at night, keep it open and look out over the lake, mountains and skies throughout the night and watch them change! Its worth going there for that alone!! A big thank you to Toni and John for sharing this special location with us.
Toni and John looked after us from the first call to book through to the exit. Nothing was too difficult to manage. We had the most amazing vegan food delivered to our room, a beautiful breakfast made with vegan yoghurt.
The view was awesome, we lay in bed and relaxed, didn’t need TV, the view constantly changing sky and the views of the river delta changing throughout the day into dusk were spectacular. This place is a hidden gem and if you are pausing thinking about booking. Book it!
Truely grateful for the opportunity to experience this wonderful place and the humble beautiful owners and hospitality we experienced.
My father and I stayed in the Tui room for a night before doing the Routeburn. We had a wonderful stay and enjoyed the dinner and breakfast at the restaurant. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. It’s a stunning spot in the world and well worth a stay. Hopefully next time we’ll spend a little longer.
5/5. We had an excellent 2 night stay. A charming 1886 lodge, just oozing character, with a lovely big open fire in the lounge. A very comfortable bed. A big shared kitchen which we used. Excellent duck for dinner from the restaurant. We did wonder whether the location would be a challenge, but it wasn’t at all. The unsealed road was really well graded and the slight remoteness added to the fun of the stay. The owners and staff could not have been kinder. We plan to walk more in the area and would definitely stay at the Kinloch Lodge again. Worth every dollar!
