Packrafting
Waterfalls, mountains, and wide open valleys – when you go packrafting you’ll see it all. Glenorchy tours are run on the beautiful Rees River and you can choose from either a day trip or overnight trip, or hire your own packraft and do your own thing.
Trips start with walk on a Department of Conservation track, before leaving this beaten path and cruising up the river flats. You’ll carry a hearty picnic lunch to keep you going, to be enjoyed underneath a 175m waterfall – picture perfect! Then you’re off downstream, over a combination of gentle grade-1 rapids and flat, flowing stretches. Plenty of opportunity to snap photos, or just lie back and gaze at glaciated mountains.
Overnight camping trips include a private campsite, situated in a beautiful grassy clearing with views of the night sky, sounds of running water, and absolutely no distractions from the natural environment. You’ll pack in plenty of action, along with a good dose of time to relax and soak up the serenity. Your guide sets everything up while you enjoy the surroundings, including getting dinner and desert ready for you. Depending on the conditions, there might even be a small fire to warm your toes.
